Mitsuharu Misawa Dead Noah Pro Wrestling Hiroshima


Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family, friends, and professional associates of Mitsuharu Misawa. Misawa, the 2nd Tiger Mask, died after taking a hard blow to the head in a backdrop from Akitoshi Saito in the main event of their GHC Tag Championship bout. Saito and Bison Smith retained their belts by winning the bout over Misawa and Go Shiozaki at 27:03 by referee stop.

On the 13th, just after 8:30 PM in Hiroshima City Naka Ward's Hiroshima Prefectural General Gym, pro wrestler Mitsuharu Misawa (46) hit his head hard in a throw from his opponent during the match. His was taken to the hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Hiroshima Prefectural Police are gathering information from people related to the match and are investigating the circumstances at the time of the incident. According to police and the organizer Pro Wrestling Noah, the tag team match main event with Misawa started at about 8:10. About 25 minutes later, Misawa was lifted up from behind and put into a back drop and fell on to the ring.

The opposing team won the match by referee stop.

According to a 32 year old businessman in attendance who was right in front of the action, after Misawa fell it took about ten minutes before he could be carted off by ambulance. Fellow wrestlers and EMTs gave him a heart massage and used an AED, put Misawa did not move at all.

Apparently during this period and after his transfer, the venue was very troubled and turbulent with the chants of "Misawa, Misawa!" came from the 2300 fans at ringside.

Misawa was born in Koshigaya City Saitama Prefecture. He debuted in 1981 and wrestled as the 2nd Tiger Mask. In the 1990s he became a featured wrestler in AJPW All Japan Pro Wrestling, and after this he formed NOAH.
